There’s nothing better on a hot summer day than walking a few feet into your backyard and taking a refreshing dip in your swimming pool. It may not be so refreshing if the pool water is not maintained, however. While they’re loads of fun, owning a pool is a big responsibility. Keeping your pool water clean takes constant upkeep if you want to ensure safe swimming conditions. With a few tips and some practice, keeping your water clean isn’t as intimidating as it seems, however. Let’s take a look at some of the best practices for keeping your pool water clean so you can become an expert in no time!

1. Keep Up With Chemical Levels

The two chemicals that need to be maintained in a pool are chlorine and pH. Improper chemical levels in a pool are something that you may not be able to see with your eyes, but they can certainly be felt when swimming. To maintain the chlorine and pH levels of your pool, use a water testing kit twice a week to check if things are balanced.

2. Let The Robots Do The Work

Thanks to new technology, cleaning your pool is now easier than ever. To remove the debris from the bottom of your pool, install a robotic vacuum cleaner. These amazing robots will automatically run all day until you tell them to stop. Whatever they pick up will be pumped into a filter which will need to be cleaned out every so often. These robots are not guaranteed to catch everything, however, so some manual skim cleaning may be necessary.

3. Empty The Skimmer

While the robot will keep the bottom of your pool clean, your pool’s skimmer will keep the surface clean. On the side of the pool, you will find something called a skimmer basket. This is where all of the dirt and debris that the skimmer collected goes. To keep your pool clean, the skimmer basket must be emptied regularly so it does not get backed up and stop collecting particles. The more it is kept up with, the cleaner both the surface and bottom of your pool will be.

4. Hire A Pool Cleaner

We know that keeping your pool water clean is a huge job. It is very time-consuming and does not work with everyone’s schedule. If your lifestyle isn’t fit for regular maintenance or you simply don’t feel qualified enough, hiring a pool cleaner is always a good idea. It is important to choose a qualified company to ensure your pool will be properly taken care of, however.
